Absolut System is showcasing its cryogenic expertise through the innovative European project MEESST, MagnetoHydrodynamic Enhanced Entry Systems for Space Transportation.
When a spacecraft enters the atmosphere at very high speed on Earth or elsewhere, the environment produces extremely high thermal loads on the surface of the craft: this is one of the most critical phases of space missions.
The aim of the MEESST project is to propose a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) system for controlling and influencing plasma dynamics on the surface of atmospheric re-entry spacecraft.
This system should considerably improve numerical prediction capabilities, as well as mitigating the thermal load and communication blackout phenomena caused by spacecraft re-entry into the atmosphere.
