Aeronautics

Today, the aeronautics sector is undergoing major change as environmental standards tighten, with strong pressure to support the ecological transition and significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Cryogenic solutions for aeronautics

Absolut System, a recognized cryogenics innovator for over 10 years, helps develop innovative, tailor‑made solutions to meet your aeronautical needs.

Our design office is pushing the boundaries of superconductivity to design electric motors and superconducting circuits for aviation.

Selected by Groupe ADP, we are also contributing to the definition of a new circular economy to prepare for the arrival of future hydrogen‑powered aircraft.

SCRYPT project

Absolut System is shaping the future of decarbonized aviation with the SCRYPT project.

This project explores how superconducting materials and cryogenic temperatures impact the performance of an aircraft’s electric propulsion systems. The partnership focuses on developing a demonstrator known as ASCEND (Advanced Superconducting and Cryogenic Experimental powertraiN Demonstrator), combining Absolut System’s expertise in cryogenic and superconducting technologies with Airbus UpNext’s capabilities in designing and producing next‑generation aircraft. Absolut System has supplied cryogenic systems for several key demonstrator applications, including a 20 K helium management system for the superconducting motor.

Decarbonizing aviation

Like many other sectors, rethinking aviation is essential to accelerate the energy transition and make air transport more sustainable.

The “Clean Sky” programme, a European public‑private partnership, was launched to develop a portfolio of innovative technologies enabling a cleaner, environmentally friendly air transport system by 2024.

Alternative, responsible solutions such as biofuels or hydrogen‑powered aircraft – both relying on cryogenics – are now under development. Superconductivity can also significantly reduce aircraft weight while increasing efficiency and performance. The aeronautics sector, in full transition, is turning to cryogenics to design more electrified (hybrid) aircraft by replacing hydraulic functions, as well as fully electric aircraft powered by hydrogen and fuel‑cell‑based electric propulsion.
